Whiskey Love
The hunger erodes me.
My inside cavern is
Drowned with cut & coke,
Dripping wet with Jack Daniels
Like the decades drip away
At the Grand Canyon.
I want to take a look inside myself,
Appreciate the shades of destruction.
The only colors
I’ve ever known.
I feel my clenched chest
And burn under the
Weight of unrequited affection.
I can never promise I won’t leave you.
The chase is only as exciting
As your next fix.
Short lived & often regreted.
Licking the bag for scraps.
You’re only as clean
As your bedsheets.
I’m only as honest as your smile.
